question about crankshaft

Post by Antti » 17 May 2019, 14:30

Greetings to everyone from Finland!

Moto Morini 350 engines have different crankshafts on different models. Does anyone know if the Excalibur 350 crankshaft is suitable for 350 Sport/Strada engines?

Hello Antti,

welcome to the Forum!

I have no experience with Excaliburs, but as far as I can judge it, it should work, as the crankcase is identical.
BUT, you should have a crankcase of the later Sport/Touring models, because earlier models have a large ball-bearing on the crankshaft.

Probably "Hombre" from this forum can explain it better.

Thanks!

Yes it is a later, -81 model. Maybe i change right-side plain bearing to the roller bearings.

What about crankshaft primary driving gear place, is it the same? And rotor place too? I have Ducati Elettrotecnica electrical equipment. Maybe their fastening is the same?

If you have the version with Ducati ignition everything is interchangeable, the roller-bearingversions were made only the first two or three years. You can identify from the outside by the three allen-screws behind the alternator. They hold the housing for the plain-bearing in place.
I have a Kanguro crank in an older Sportsengine and it all fits just fine.
