Sbarazzino 100

The US models of the Corsaro were called Hurricane, Cyclone or Jaguar.
In the US, Sbarazzino was called Thunder Chief

Sbarazzino 100

Post by Isaac » 30 Apr 2018, 18:09

Hi there, I wonder if any one can help me with this? I recently acquired a Sbarazzino 100 with the sort of high rise bars that were fitted to a number of US spec models in the mid 1960’s. I have very little documentary history with the bike, just a list of previous owners since it was imported into the UK in 1998. I understand that it was restored in Italy after spending it’s life in the US. It has 1800 miles on the (MPH) clock, and it is all there. The registration document (V5) states 1958 as the year of manufacture, which cannot be correct. From what I can see it looks to be a 1965 / 66 model. Is there any way to date the bike with the frame / engine numbers? This is easy on old British bikes but there is little information on these machines. Any help much appreciated!

They are rare too over here as well.
Tom Ros has some Corsaro/Sbarazzino stuff, maybe he can shed a light on the birth year of your bike.

I agree with Hombre: they are very rare in this country, as they were never officially imported. The ones in this country were privately imported by their owners or predecessors.

Of course it is possible that the bike was restored with parts of later models. The Sbarazzino was built from late '56 until the Summer of 1969.

A trick to find out the year of production is to take out the speedo. If you're lucky there is an original small paper sticker on the side or bottom of it with the month/year of production. Of course over 50 years it is very well possible the sticker is lost.

I believe there is one more of these tricks, but I have to ask a friend who has restored many older Morini's.

Many thanks, I’ll certainly have a look at the speedo when I have the chance!

There is a date stamp just visible on the bottom of the speedo, ‘5 - 65’ which ties in with the age I think it is. Thanks for the advice! Does anybody have a list of engine / frame numbers for different years of manufacture, or know who I can ask?

Great you found the date!! Unfortunately I have never seen a list with framenumbers on Sbarazzino's and Corsaro's (125/150cc). Only on later export models (to UK, US?), the factory (or importer added an engine number corresponding with the framenumber). Morini's in Italy only had an engine letter, http://www.motomoriniclub.nl/iden.jpg like this "A" on a 350.

Best contact the Italian Registro Storico Moto Morini to find out the year of production, see http://www.registrostoricomotomorini.it/
Instructions how/when to contact them, what to send etc. on the website of the Registro.

Keep us posted on your progress and can you post a picture of your bike?
